Our immune system is complicated, so lets break it down.
There are 2 main sections of your immune system: Innate Immunity and Adaptive Immunity
Innate Immunity:
-registers a foreign invader, and gets rid of it
The Corona Virus is a new virus which has mutated from the SARS virus. This means our bodies haven't learned how to defend itself strongly against it, YET. Our immune system must now identify it and tag it so in the future, it knows.
Innate Immunity has many ways to tag a virus using specialized immune cells like Neurophils, Basophils, Eosinophils, Macrophages, and Mast cells. This type of immunity is "non-specific" meaning it doesn't create a memory for the future. It simply creates an immune response in the body.
Adaptive Immunity:
-creates memory of viruses and sends out an attack team
That Innate immune response sends feedback to your Adaptive Immunity which consists of B cells, T cells and CD4 helper cells. These become your army against viruses. It creates a memory of specific viruses you've been in contact with so that if you are in contact with it again, it will act efficiently to eliminate it.
Lets dive into a piece of this immune puzzle and talk about Cytokines. These act as the messenger between Innate Immunity and Adaptive Immunity. When we hear people talk about the Corona Virus, we are hearing a lot about a 'cytokine storm', or an overproduction of these cytokines in the body.
So how do we slow the cytokine storm? You can make easy dietary choices that enhance all parts of this immune process.
Easy dietary steps to take to support these 2 types of immunity:
Keto diet: keep blood sugar low. Chronic out of control diabetes (or high out of control blood sugar) lowers your Innate Immunity. Which means the body doesn't even notice the virus! This explains why more people who are dying of this virus, have complications due to blood sugar imbalances. Keep your blood sugar under 100 if you measure. High blood sugar also creates inflammation in the body, which adds fuel to your cytokine storm.
Eat more fermented foods: Leukocytes (white blood cells) work best with the support of helpful bacteria! This is part of that Innate Immunity. Remember that the Innate Immunity is the first line of defense against viruses. This is speed up the process of your body registering that their is a foreign invader present in your system.
Proper Nutrients: Vitamina A, C, E, Zinc & Glutathione. These are present most in greens! Broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, micro greens, nuts & seeds, spinach, kale, etc. These nutrients are needed for both parts of your immune system.
