How do we make sure the moment of birth is sacred? It starts with the concept of creating a sacred space. To find what this means to you, close your eyes, take some deep breathes, and be certain that you are in control of this moment and you have all the capabilities. Practice what the scene will look like when you give birth. Are you at home? Are you in a hospital? Are you doing it all naturally? Are you getting an epidural? Just remember, you are in control. Your mind and your body are so powerful, you can create the scene you want. Then, when the time comes, you are more prepared and ready. Your body was made to birth this child! Do not let anyone else force their ideas on what your birth should or shouldn't be.
How you feel about your birth also makes a huge impact on keeping a sacred place for birthing. If you stress, that is what your baby will feel in their first moments. Stress leads to poor decision making in the moment. Don't let fear seep into your moment and control your plan. While pregnant, practice feelings of gratitude and support. Picture a successful, healthy, happy birth. Picture that over and over in great detail! Something every expectant mother should have is a tribe of supporters around her. This can be your partner, your current children, parents, friends, family members, a midwife, chiropractor, doula, etc. These people protect your birth process. They are standing up for what you want without clouded judgement.
A chiropractor is a great person to help support you throughout not only your birth, but your pregnancy as well. Chiropractors are specially trained to help mom's body adapt to the physical stresses of pregnancy. This includes back pain, pelvic pain, sciatica, headaches, carpal tunnel, round ligament pain, indigestion, heart burn and so much more. Our moms under care report more comfort, more confidence, and more support through the process. Most moms that we see in the office are 2nd time moms! This is because they learned (the hard way) that they needed more heartfelt care.
The support from your team will undoubtedly help you through the birthing process. A support team should include a chiropractor! Not only that, a chiropractor should be present at birth to adjust mom if needed during the birth and to give baby its first adjustment after the birthing process. Many times when chiropractors are present at births, they can prevent dystocia (long, difficult, stalled labor). Which allows moms more capabilities to have a natural birth without the need for dangerous interventions.
