What is the biggest factor in how we age?
STRESS, STRESS, STRESS
Did your heart start racing reading that? Did your armpits start sweating? Maybe a little shake felt in the hands?
We can easily accept the fact that stress changes the way our body functions. Sometimes for good reasons, but sometimes also for bad. Stress is very helpful to us as humans. It helps us adapt to our world and respond appropriately. The old saying of seeing a bear in the woods... we're all happy to have our stress reactions! Our pupils dilate, our heart races, blood floods the muscles we need to escape. This is an example of how stress is needed for us to navigate and survive.
There is a down side to stress reactions in today's modern day life. We may not be worried about bears chasing us down, but we are worried about getting to work on time, paying our bills, raising healthy children, getting good grades, etc. This is chronic stress. What was meant to be a singular stress response that deters quickly, is now stuck in that response pattern. Over time it leads to elevated blood pressure, fatigue, and inadequate digestion. When our body thinks there's always a bear lurking behind us, our body strains to keep up that level of response day after day. Does this sound like you??
This chronic stress ages us like crazy. This is a basic fact. For a moment, think of your body like a classic car. Those that keep up with basic maintenance, oil changes, brakes, alignment, keep their cars garaged...these cars last longer and perform better. If you take care of your body by investing in health education, chiropractic, proper diet, stress management, exercise regimes, then your body will last longer and perform better.
Cancer is proven to be more environmentally triggered (stress, toxins, pesticides, air/water pollution), as opposed to genetic. This is actually a great thing! It means we have more control over our health than we thought.
Chiropractic takes the physical stresses off the body. This means your body is not constantly plagued with pain, poor nerve impulses, diminished brain function, and more. Remember that EVERYTING in the body stems from the spine. If your spine is prematurely aging with arthritis, poor movement, improper muscle development; then that will manifest in more symptoms. When people are under chiropractic care, they process stress better. This is one of the many things we test for at Thrive Family Chiropractic. We test to see if your body is able to adapt to the stress around you. Are you curious as to what that looks like? Call our office and see how your body responds to simple stresses. Chiropractic might be the one thing your body desperately needs to age with grace!
Check out this study done on chiropractic and aging. It shows that those you are under care have more length left in the Telomeres. This is the end bit of your genetic material that defines how old your DNA is and more importantly, how much longer these cells can continue to divide and function.
