Blood pressure is one of the most studied aspects related to human health. There are many reasons for that...lets explore 3 key roles of blood pressure:
#1. Heart disease is the number 1 killer in the United States
How does someone get heart disease? From long term uncontrolled high blood pressure! When the pressure is high in the arteries, it puts extra strain on the heart itself. Imagine your heart running a marathon, but with high blood pressure. It's like your heart is running a marathon with a weight vest on. The extra work it has to do to combat the pressure will create great wear and tear and leads to heart disease and heart failure.
#2. Healthy blood pressure is crucial to ALL human functions
The amount of blood that gets to all of your organs depends on how much pressure or lack of pressure there is in the supporting vessels. Every organ needs adequate blood supply, and it is dependent on the pressure. High pressure means there is more work load on that organ, low pressure may mean it doesn't get enough blood to function at 100%. Both high and low pressure lead to poor health outcomes.
#3 High blood pressure leads to many other disease processes
Over time, having high blood pressure taxes all the organs in the body. Especially the heart, kidneys, liver, blood vessel walls, and brain. Our medical systems are overrun with blood pressure related diseases! Strokes, kidney, liver, & heart disease can all be attributed to high blood pressure.
Those concepts listed above are the reason that pharmaceutical company's spend millions of dollars creating and marketing medications that artificially lower your blood pressure. There's a huge market for them! The problem is, once you depend on a medication to lower your blood pressure, you will likely be on that pill for the rest of your life. The only cure to high blood pressure is prevention.
Easy tips to lower blood pressure:
Consistent exercise, maintain healthy weight, avoid alcohol, avoid stress, eat healthy, no smoking, no caffeine.
Is that even realistic!?!
The "hole in one" solution to lowering blood pressure?
May sound out of place, but rest assured that is no mistake. Chiropractic care CAN lower blood pressure. Remember that blood pressure is one of the most studied health outcomes and chiropractic does a huge amount of research on the impact of chiropractic on blood pressure. Most research in done based on chiropractic adjustments to the first vertebra in the neck, also known as Atlas or simply C1.
The atlas houses the most precious area of our spinal cord - the brainstem. The brainstem controls automatic body functions such as heart rate, breath rate, sleeping, and ding ding ding, BLOOD PRESSURE. Adjusting your Atlas releases tension on the brain stem which inevitably lowers blood pressure. The chiropractic adjustment also puts the nervous system in a state of 'ease'. Giving your body a chance to rest out of our usual 'fight or flight' response during times with high blood pressure.
Supportive research:
"We conclude that restoration of Atlas alignment is associated with marked and sustained reductions in BP similar to the use of two-drug combination therapy."

A huge percentage of Americans suffer with high blood pressure, or are on at least one blood pressure lowering drug. However, many of these people suffer in silence! They don't know how high their blood pressure is, or the ways to manage it. These people likely find out when it's too late to do something proactive about it, meaning they now have signs of disease.
