Does your child suffer from being "over sensitive"? Maybe they can't tolerate loud noises, intense smells, the feeling clothes on their skin, or have trouble tolerating basic touch from their loved ones. This may mean that your child is not processing their sensations properly.
Our bodies are so good at sending the brain information about the world around them, ie. sight, smell, taste, and touch. We are so good, that in fact the brain's main job is to dampen down all those signals to make it easier for us to process and prioritize all these sensations. For example, have you ever noticed that if you walk into a room with a ticking clock, that after a couple minutes your brain will turn off that ticking sound. Because that sound has been deemed a low priority by your brain. The conversation you are having is #1 priority and you focus on that.
This clock analogy can be anything, not just with sound. The wind blowing on your neck, even the feeling of makeup on your skin is something that your brain is supposed to dampen for you. This way, we can function in our society without feeling a bombardment of sensations every second. Now imagine you are a child growing up and your brain hasn't developed this sophisticated skill. You may feel completely overwhelmed all the time. A common example of a brain not having this skill, is with children on the autism spectrum. Autism brains tend to lack this ability to dampen down the sensations that barrage us everyday. It can be a very overwhelming world if you do not have this precious system developed.
Now this doesn't mean if your child is overly sensitive that they are on the autism spectrum. This is just a perfect example that is identified in those with the condition.
Most importantly, find yourselves a certified pediatric chiropractor who can identify this issue. At our office we specialize in brain based chiropractic for kids. Our procedures and exam find out why your child might be having trouble navigating everyday life with ease. There may be a disconnect between their brain and body which makes it hard to prioritize sensations being input to the brain. What may be a simple task to you, like wearing socks, may be extremely intense for them.
As chiropractors we see improvements in this area with EVERY SINGLE CHILD we care for. Even those who may not be "too sensitive" find that they can focus more on the important things because they are not as distracted by what's around them. As adults, we know there are a million distractions. Wouldn't you want your child to grow up with the ability to focus and be at ease with everything life involves? Chiropractic care helps kids of all ages develop a more functional brain! As their brain adapts and changes it is vital to support them in this process. Come see us at Thrive Family Chiropractic and see how we can help you and your children have better, more adaptable, more powerful brains.
